AUTOMOTIVE LEARNING | TYPES OF CLUTCH ON CARS

How to repair the clutch - Hello automotive friends, in this article we will share information about the automotive world. You need to read this article as a mechanic so that you can add to your insight into the basics of automotive, especially in cars. In this article, we will discuss the clutch in a car.

automotive learning types of clutch

Types of Clutch

1. Mechanical Clutch

Mechanical couplings are common and most used are dry single plate couplings, the working principle of the mechanical coupling is:

a. If the clutch pedal is free, the clutch plate will be docked or connected between the continuation wheel and the pressure plate. While the clutch suppressor spring provides pressure which is very necessary to prevent the clutch from slipping, engine power is transferred from the crankshaft to the continuation wheel and the clutch plate directly to the "input shaft" of the "gear box".

b. If the clutch pedal is pressed, the pressure plate tends to move away due to the pressure radius that moves by the pressure from the clutch release bearing so that in this way the clutch plate is lifted freely, the clutch plate can rotate freely between the pressure plate and the continuation wheel, thus the connection between the shaft the crank with the input shaft breaks.

Engine power can work best when starting the vehicle by sliding the clutch, the components of the continuation wheel and the clutch are planned to counter the heat generated by the clutch linkage due to slip. Approximately close to 50% heat energy use at any given time. The successor wheel, clutch plate and pressure plate are very important parts.

2. Hydraulic Clutch

The shape and parts of this clutch are the same as the single dry clutch, it rotates in a trough filled with oil. The only difference is in the layers. In the dry clutch the lining is made of ferodo while the wet clutch is made of cork.

The cork is placed on the steel plate, the nature of the cork does not become slippery in oil, the springs which are equipped to press the pressure ring must have a greater pressure than the spring found in the dry clutch. It works softer and better and doesn't wear out easily. This model clutch is only on certain vehicles because it is difficult to maintain.

In a hydraulic clutch the propulsion consists of oil where the power is generated by centrifugal force, the clutch can provide a soft motion and the driving force does not shock and does not require a pedal. The clutch consists of two tubes whose parts have fans or ribs which have top angles. Part of the impeller drives the other impeller. One impeller is connected to the crankshaft and the other to the transmission shaft. The propulsion is given from the propulsion pump to the propulsion turbine. The impeller and turbine are tightly closed to each other without a mechanical connection. They are connected to the cap or housing and the part therein is filled with oil, when the impeller part is rotating, the oil flows forward which is the centrifugal force and is driven by a ball and rib shape above the turbine section. Through the oil, the movement is transferred from the impeller to the turbine and directly moves the gear crate.

3. Diaphragm Clutch

The diaphragm clutch also includes a dry single clutch. This clutch does not have components such as a spiral spring type clutch, which has a moving mechanic such as a release lever, rotating pen, eye bolt and so on but enough with a diaphragm spring. So, the diaphragm spring can actuate the pressure plate to connect and disconnect the clutch with the engine. Judging from the construction, this type is very simple and the pressure is more even and stronger, even though the clutch is thin (worn), only because the diaphragm spring is attached to the cover, the component replacement is carried out at once.

4. Double Clutch

The double clutch has two clutch plates and four friction areas which can allow the power to be stronger (large). Between the two clutch plates there is an intermediate press plate. This dual clutch model is for high volume “cc” capacity vehicles, sports vehicles and heavy duty vehicles.
